Why do panels on the side of the Lamborghini Reventon (Roadster) deploy at high speeds?

Maybe its just in Need for Speed, but on the Lamborghini Reventon Roadster model, there are these panels situated just behind the windows the extend outwards at around 130 mph. I was wondering what was the point of having them do this, what effect does it have on the car?
